Collector or conscious consumer, there are three bags essential to any closet.
Unfortunately, pants pockets just don’t seem to be enough to hold all the essentials, at least not most of the time.
Even if the dress you bought has pockets, who wants to risk the front bunching up, or a pocket rip?
Aside from being useful for carrying your cards, your hard earned money, your extra makeup, and anything else you might need, they also can add some style points to an otherwise normal, run-of-the-mill outfit.
Because of the range of styles, types, and colors, it can be hard to decide not only what type of bag, but where to buy it. Especially in a retail climate where price does not equal quality, it is important to pay attention and do your research.
Some ways to get a nice, well-made bag that still fits the purpose, and the style, you are going for, I suggest looking outside of the normal realm and at small businesses, vintage stores/websites, and bags that have a history of holding up well.
Now, not all purses were created equal. Nor were they created for the same purposes. Here are just a few things to consider when purchasing a new bag.
And, a couple unique items and knick knacks to add to the bags while you’re at it.
The Large Tote:
It’s hard to think of a reason you don’t need a large bag. Unless you rarely leave your house to read, to work, to bring things places, to grocery shop, in which case, a small purse might be better suited, large totes/bags are the gift that keeps on giving.
First, a budget-friendly tote bag that has been seen on influencers, celebrities, and your local tennis mom, alike:
It comes in different sizes, with the option to personalize it with a slogan or a name.
For more of a purse tote, consider the JW Pei bag:
Or, if you are in need of a work bag, look no further than Polène:
Regardless of the goal, a tote bag is perfect for days on the go when you need your laptop, books, journals, or even a spare sweater.
The Everyday Purse:
A ludicrously capacious bag, if you will. This is slightly smaller than a huge work tote, but still important.
For the daytime, consider a bucket bag shape, or a larger cross-body.
This YSL pink suede bag is an excellent way to diversify what you wear:
Or an Anthropologie green leather tote for spring:
The Night-Out Bag:
While these bags might be suggested for night, make no mistake. You can wear them at any time you just need to be carrying a few things in your purse.
For a new-take on an old style, try this Aupen Black Bag:
Or for something a bit less subtle (and more expensive), this Dior shoulder bag does the trick:
Whatever your task of the day (or night!), these three bags should fill your needs.
Now, for what you might want to bring with you in any of these, that is up to you. Here are some suggestions to help make life a bit more interesting:
A journal, like this one, for, you know, anything you might want to plot, to jot down.
Or a lipstick case, just so it’s easier to spot, especially in the larger bag options.
This one from Carolina Herrera comes in several sizes.
And lastly, maybe add a keychain to your keys, just for easy access.
This gold one is slick and chic.
Happy shopping!
