We’ve all heard criticisms, whether external and internal, about wearing leggings, a sweatshirt, or other clothing labeled as unprofessional, and occasionally, sloppy.
But in the past several decades, iconic sweatshirts, matching sweatsuits, and leggings have trended and have been seen on everyone from influencers to members of the royal family.
I think we’ve all seen the photos of Princess Diana in her sweatshirts, looking both put together and relatable all at once.
If a princess can do it, then you certainly can. And you don’t even have to spend much.
Take this shirt, modeled after a shirt Rachel Green wore. It’s cute, it’s simple, but it’s still a comfortable t-shirt. Style it with jeans, a tennis skirt, flare leggings, or sweatpants, and you still look good.
Here are some brands and outfit ideas that are worth buying if you want to dip into comfort while still staying comfy.
A plain sweatsuit:
You don’t need to buy a trendy matching set with words all over it, or a brand name on the front. You can, but there are understated examples that still look just as good. You might even already have something you can match it to!
Or, pair these Aerie sweatpants with a plain black shirt or sweatshirt you already have! You can throw a long coat over it in the cold and still give off put-together energy.
Flare leggings:
I mean, even Kendrick Lamar (at least as of recently) is into the Flare look. Consider a pair of dad sneakers (or any sneaks of your choosing) with a pair of flare leggings and a zip-up or color blocked faded crew neck.
From Splits59:
Frankies Bikinis has a great cable knit zip-up to pair with:
Graphic Sweatshirt:
I mean, Princess Diana rocked it, so you can too. Not just once either. She was photographed wearing several different sweatshirts in her time, ranging from Harvard to this iconic airline sweater.
This is a great option for people who want to stand out a bit, as you can find graphic sweatshirts at thrift stores, vintage stores, and even in your dad’s closet!
Dressing up leggings:
In the winter, you can dress up a pair of athletic leggings with scrunch socks and some cozy boots with a cable knit sweater. You will look both put together and will feel as comfortable as ever.
Or the Amazon version:
Leggings certainly aren’t revolutionary, but they are tried and true throughout the decades. They can be found anywhere from amazon, to lululemon, to revolve, and anywhere in between.
Here’s a pair from Varley:
Another option to dress up your outfit when you wear leggings, especially plain ones, is to wear jewelry or have a stand-out bag.
Regardless of your athletic/comfy wear of choice, just know that you can wear it while still feeling your best.
Form and Function!
