Good Lookin’ Gameday!

Not to break out sweaters early or start baking pumpkin bread prematurely, but as we approach September, we also approach the start of major college and professional sports.

While just a jersey from time to time can do the trick, there are certainly more interesting ways to add a little bit more style to gamedays.

From hair accessories, school-colored clothing, jewelry, and everything in between, there is surely something you can add to show your spirit.

The Main Event: Gameday Clothing

If you aren’t ready to commit to a name and number for a jersey, or you want a more unique way of showing your support, there are plenty of ways to do so without sacrificing your personal style.

One recommendation is ribbed t-shirts, tank tops, or long sleeves in the same color as your team, paired with a classic pair of jeans, and maybe a hat, or one of the many accessories below. Some of my favorite shirts to wear to games, or just out to watch the game, come from reformation, or princess polly.

I personally own this red shirt from Reformation and let me tell you, it was well worth the money. Perfect fit and great for a summer/fall Red Sox game, and they have several styles of tops in this color as well.

If you are looking for something more specific to your school or team, try using etsy to find custom pieces or color schemes that resonate with you.

For example, as an avid Cubs (and baseball) fan, I have customized a tight tank to say a specific saying from Harry Caray, a famous baseball announcer associated with the franchise. Niche, but for the fans who know, they know.

These custom bear tees and tanks are perfect to show your support while staying chic.

Instead of going with merch that has already been made and is sold by sites like Fanatics and the Cubs store, making something custom brings it to your personal style.

Additionally, depop and ebay are the place to look for vintage or reworked pieces!

This Michigan shirt is under $20 dollars and there are many more where that came from. Key words to use are “vintage” or 2000s/90s insert school name

Another place to look, especially for menswear is Johnnie-O’s gameday collection. They have gear for men and women, and their pullovers and hoodies make great gifts. For trendy options, constantly featured on Instagram, look to Tiny Turnip.

If you are keeping it lowkey, my favorite easy thing to throw on is a sundress in one of the team’s colors or a jean dress with a button and call it a day.

I love these dress options from Princess Polly and Peppermayo

Hair Accessories

Sometimes, less is more. Instead of planning an outfit around a school or team logo, maybe you just want to have a little hint of cheer in an otherwise downplayed outfit.

A classic is a baseball cap, which I personally am biased towards. It means less time styling your hair and can pull the whole fit together in a classy, understated way.

The Knicks hats featured below on Kylie and Kendall Jenner pull together a more basic, unassuming outfit. I would recommend getting at least one hat to wear for your favorite team, because it makes the options for outfits throughout the season endless.

For hats, looking on Fanatics, Amazon, the school store, Etsy, and Dicks Sporting Goods should have you more than ready.

Another way to elevate a look is with hair clips.

For a more general sporty look (think go sports! I hope everyone has fun!), this football clip is amazing and perfect for fall.

Looking for a school specific clip or set of hair-ties? Teleties has you covered:

Baublebar even has some blinged out versions of the classic hair clip and bows:

For less of a commitment to a singular team, I love a gingham bow in your team colors!

Regardless of what your choose, hair accessories are a perfect way to pep up an outfit without going all out.

Game ON!

Even Ralph Lauren and trending brands like Madhappy are getting in on the booming world of sports! Here are some cool pieces for inspiration for your next gameday!
